Grinding the Demos

Now that I’ve escaped from Stringtown crossed the flooded river and am home in Michigan, I can finally tell you about the antique commercial coffee grinder cincyjojo brought to the Farm Party!

She had emailed Thursday morning before heading to WV to see if she could/should bring it. Well, YES, you can! I love antiques, especially kitchen antiques–I wanted to operate it!

I was demonstrating roasting coffee beans in a cast iron pan at the Party. Perfect!

We’d roast the coffee beans and shake the chaf.

Even though they wouldn’t be ready for percolating, they could be ground.

After the beans were ready, cincyjojo hauled (it was heavy!) the grinder out to Suzanne’s steps so we could operate it.

It wouldn’t turn! A few packing peanuts later, we were in business.

We tried all of the grinder settings. The lower the number, the finer the grind.

This is the coffee beans ground on “7”, the coarsest grind.

Then we had the bright idea of grinding some of the wheat Pete had brought for the grain grinding demonstration.

We ground it on “1”, the finest grind.

Then on “1” again.

It was probably easier in the VitaMix Pete brought,

but it ground the wheat nicely. I would have used it in a loaf of bread!

What a wonderful grinder cincyjojo has. I was jealous. Very, very jealous.

Dang! I wanted to see that thing in action. I watched poor CincyJoJo try and haul it up Suzanne’s hill. Good thing Weston was there to rescue her!

It was soooo cool! And fun to use. You could grind enough coffee for the neighborhood in no time at all!!

Ok, now I’m super motivated..hubby is making me a soap mold this weekend and I have supplies en route.

Onto coffee….what should I buy if I like a french roast? A little on the darker side but not bitter? There is a lot of info out there…

    Signed Confused.

I saw various parts of this but didn’t know what it was. I’m so sorry I missed it in operation. I can almost smell the coffee now.
