How to Make Echinacea Tincture
Echinacea, known for its immune system-enhancing capabilities, is especially beneficial during cold and flu season and a tincture is so easy to make!

Ingredients

Echinacea root (Purple Coneflower root)
100 Proof Vodka (I used 151 proof Everclear)
Cheese Cloth

Directions

Put echinacea root into glass jar and cover with vodka. Put lid on and keep in a cool dark place. Shake EVERY day for SIX weeks. Remove root and store tincture in sterilized jars or containers.

    Wow! I’m going to try this. My husband and I make something very similar for bruises and light abrasions using comfrey. We just get a quart jar and fill it half full with comfrey leaves or chopped comfrey root. You can get comfrey at most health food stores. We grew our own plant, but killed it through neglect during a drought. Any way, we then fill the quart jar with cheap vodka, close the jar, and put it in a dark cupboard for a couple of weeks. When we pull it out it is a very dark color. We strain the leaves/roots out, and bottle the liquid. Its great to put on sore muscles and bruises. It smells earthy, and not unpleasant. Works great on our donkeys too!

    Glad you posted this. I have been interested in other tinctures, and echinacea looks like a great next move.
