Q. What are your favorite things to cook?
Breads, desserts, maybe a new casserole once in a while.
Q. How/when did you learn to cook?
Oh, dear, not until I absolutely needed to! LOL Though I looked over Mom’s shoulder once in a while when I lived at home, it wasn’t until I married and then HAD to depend on myself in order to get some cooked meals that I got serious about it.
Q. Tell us about some of your cooking triumphs.
My first turkey! But what stands out in my mind most is the Sweet Potato Surprise Cake I made. It tasted just like Mom’s!
Q. What was your most memorable cooking tragedy?
Ahem…when I was 13. It was my turn to pop the popcorn for family night television, and I accidentally grabbed up a can of kerosene instead of the melted bacon drippings. Lots of smoke, but no fire. Every kernel popped beautifully, but what a terrible taste!
Q. Describe your kitchen. Do you love it, hate it, and why?
Since I live in a mobile home, I’m pretty cramped for space. That I hate. I wish there were more cabinets and counter space. On the other hand, its smallness gives an air of coziness too, and bright sunshine pours in through the window. Overall, it’s pleasant enough.
Q. Is your pantry organized and are your kitchen drawers tidy? We need to know.
Some, yes, and some, no! I don’t even go near those which stay in an order of disarray!
Q. Do you have any favorite family cooking traditions?
We always used to gather at my grandmother’s on the Fourth of July. Family, relatives, cousins by the dozens would show up and we always made homemade ice cream and chowed down on garden fresh watermelon. How in the world we ever thought ice cream and watermelon would go together is beyond me!
Q. What is the one gadget (or ten) you couldn’t do without in your kitchen?
My coffee pot!
Q. If you had to take one food to a deserted island, what would it be?
Coffee. Is that a food????
Q. What is your go-to comfort food?
Anything chocolate!
