My grandfather, Dan Smith, was a “Wildcatter”. He went all over the US and South America, wherever oil was being discovered. My mom said he was a pretty good cook of simple, good meals. One of the things he would often make has been a family favorite for decades. He simply called this “stuff” (What’s for dinner, Dad? STUFF!”) It is a simple, one pot meal that can be doctored up or eaten on it’s own with ketchup or hot-sauce. It is a great food stretcher, as you can cut back on the burger a little if need be. A wonderful addition to this is fresh Chorizo, if you have access to it. Just brown it with the burger.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 6-8 depending on serving size.
Prep Time: 15 minutes Cook Time: About 25 minutesIngredients
3-5 lbs of ground chuck (or burger, etc.)
5-6 large potatoes, washed and peeled (or leave the skins on, if you prefer)
1 onion
Garlic to your taste (optional)
Teaspoon salt (or less if you prefer)
Pepper to your taste
Directions
Brown your burger in a large, heavy pan with garlic, onion, salt and pepper. (Cast iron is great for this meal.)
While the burger is browning, cube the potatoes. When the burger is cooked, add the potatoes to the browned burger. Cook thoroughly on medium/low temp. Stir frequently. Once cooked, drain any excess fat.
Serve with ketchup or hot-sauce.
Add canned beans or corn as a side dish and homemade Grandmother bread and you have a delicious simple meal that takes little money and gets rave reviews from my children’s friends when they visit (and my husband loves it, too.)

I sometimes find them at the specialty cooking stores, because those seems to be better and you get more per package. However, they seem to be in all grocery by the foil, cooking bags, etc. As for the price , they usually come wth 4 in box. slow cooker
