Cookies are rolled in crushed cornflakes and then topped with a quarter of, or moon shaped piece of a maraschino cherry, thus the term “wink.” Since it is rolled in cereal, it could even be classified as a “breakfast cookie”.

Aaaaahhhhh….. This brings back some memories! It had to be in the early to mid 50’s when Mom made these because we moved from the house where she made them in 1956.

Added the pecans to the list! And they STILL sound wonderful!
(Am wondering just how they would be made with something other than the cherry on top. Had an overload deal some years ago with maraschino cherries and cannot even look at them now!)

Actually,I wondered the same thing, so I put a chocolate star on each one right after they came out of the oven. I think I liked them even better than the ones with the cherries. Just saying, Chocolate does rule!

Was thinking about dried cranberries, you know, to stay with the fruit theme and perhaps even be able to call it healthy, what with the fruit and cereal. But, HEY, the chocolate sounds sooooo much better!! Besides, you wouldn’t make these too often, so they’d be “special” enough that you wouldn’t really need to justify anything about them. Yeah. I’m sticking with that story!
A dark chocolate Hershey’s Kiss maybe? Oh, that just sounds disgusting! Besides, there are none of those around. Don’t know where they went…
