My favorite bread. My husband and kids won’t make a sandwich on anything else.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 1 loaf (recipe can be doubled)
Prep Time: about 2 hours Cook Time: 30-35 minIngredients
2-3 cups all purpose flour
2 cups wheat bread flour
2 Tbsp powdered milk
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 packet active yeast
2 Tbsp sugar
2 Tbsp honey
2 tsp salt
1/3 cup butter
1 egg
Directions
In a large mixing bowl combine sugar, honey, warm water and yeast. Meanwhile sift flour and powdered milk all together into a separate bowl. Melt butter. Beat egg; set aside. After yeast has proofed (bubbled up) begin by adding 2 cups of the flour mix to the warm water mix well. Add egg, butter, and salt. Mix in all the flour you can until dough comes away from the bowl easily. Turn out onto a floured surface and begin kneading dough adding flour as you go until elastic and smooth. Put dough into a greased bowl, turn once to coat and cover with plastic wrap sprayed with non-stick spray. Let rise in a warm place for about an hour, to an hour and a half. Punch dough down and knead again lightly. Shape into a loaf and place in a greased pan. Cover with the same plastic wrap lightly (tent it). Let it rise again for 30 min or so until it is just above the rim of the pan by an inch or so. Preheat your oven to 350. Bake for 30-35 min depending on your oven. (Mine is weird so 33 min works for me). Set on a rack to cool.
