My grandmother kept house for a wealthy family in town by the name of Beecher. This was the missus’ favorite cookie and the only thing she would make on her own, my grandma did the rest of the cooking. We always used margarine for this so I don’t know if butter works in it or not. I don’t know why it wouldn’t. I included it in the candy section because it is cooked on top of the stove and has no flour in it.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: about 24 cookies
Prep Time: 10 mins. Cook Time: 1 1/2 minutesIngredients
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 cup milk
2 1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions
Bring first four ingredients to a boil in a heavy saucepan over high heat. Boil 1 1/2 minutes over medium heat. NO longer. Remove quickly from heat.
Have the next three ingredients already measured. Add quickly to the boiled mixture. Stir until mixture is ready to set up. Drop by spoonfuls onto
waxed paper or greased aluminum foil. Let harden.
