These bars freeze well. They thaw in 10 seconds in the microwave or within 2 hours out of the freezer. Each bar has approximately 300 calories. 5 gm protein. 17 gm total fat. 31mg cholesterol. Each square costs approximately 25 cents to make.

2 1/2 cups dry oats (old fashioned or quick cooking)
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 Tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup canola oil (please avoid blended oils in this)
4 large eggs
1 cup raisins
3 cups Raisin Bran cereal
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Directions
In a large bowl, mix eggs, oil, cinnamon, and salt, together with a sturdy wood spoon. Add sugars, mix again. Add flours and mix again. Add oats, mix. The batter is getting quite thick at this point. You may want to mix the remaining ingredients with your hands (as you would meatloaf) or continue on with the wood spoon. Finish mixing in the remaining ingredients and spoon the batter into a well greased 9 x 13 pan. FIRMLY press the mixture into the pan to level it and to remove air pockets. This will help it not crumble later. Bake for 30 minutes in a preheated oven at 350 degrees. Cool the bars completely before cutting them into 24 2 x 2 inch squares.

My hubster was going on a three day kayak camping trip to the gulf coast. Every thing had to fit in the kayak. He asked me to come up with a tastier and more economical version of the power bars that are available. He chose to eat the Oatmeal Breakfast Bars for Breakfast, lunch,and snacks.
Dinner as well, if it was to windy to keep the propane mini stove going. These worked great. The only problem was the chocolate got a bit messy in the heat, but I warned him of that and he said he would take messy over no chocolate. He found the bars to be very filling and easy to pack and transport. I am sure they would be good with cranberries, or peanut butter chips, or white chocolate chips, ooh, coconut. Yes, lots of ways to jazz it up.
