These are best served with fried fish, using the oil the fish was fried in to fry the hush puppies.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 2
Prep Time: 5 mins Cook Time: perhaps 5-8 minsIngredients
1 cup cornmeal
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
1/8 tsp white pepper
1/3 cup minced onion
1 egg, beaten
1/4 cup milk (I use buttermilk)
Oil for frying (usually the oil that I have just fried fish in)
Directions
Mix the cornmeal with the baking powder, salt, black pepper, white pepper, and onion.
Mix the egg with the milk and whisk into the cornmeal mixture.
Preheat the oil to 350 in a deep fryer (I use my cast iron skillet where I fried fish in).
Drop spoonfuls of the batter carefully into the hot oil and fry until golden brown.
