An old fashioned cookie–notice it uses soda, not baking powder. The recipe I got from Grandmother actually didn’t have any mixing instructions, just the list of ingredients.
Difficulty: Intermediate
Servings: 3 doz
Prep Time: 20 Cook Time: 8 to 10 minutesIngredients
3/4 c shortening
1 c sugar
1/4 c molasses
1 egg
2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp soda
1/2 tsp each cinnamon, cloves, ginger
Directions
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add egg and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and then add to the sugar/molasses mix.
Roll dough into balls and roll in sugar. Place on a cookie sheet and press flat with the bottom of a glass that has been greased and dipped in sugar.
Bake at 375 for 8 to 10 minutes.
