I’ve never met a Christmas Cooky that I didn’t like. HA,Ha! But, this is my family’s favorite -hands down. I just made these for 2 Open Houses for my friends. Betty Crocker Best Cooky of 1955-1960
Difficulty:
Ingredients
1/2 cup butter
3/4 powdered sugar
1 Tbsp vanilla or I use 2 tsp Watkins almond flavoring.
1 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/8 tsp. salt
Filling:
Drained maraschino cherries or Hershey kisses
Bon Bon Icing/Toppings:
coconut, chopped nuts, sprinkles
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mix butter, sugar, vanilla or almond flavoring, food coloring if desired. Blend in flour and salt. If dough is dry add 1-2 Tbl. milk.
For each cookie, wrap 1 Tbl. dough around cherry or kiss. Bake 1 inch apart on parchment paper 12-15 min. or until set but not brown. Cool; dip tops of cookies in glaze. I usually tint some pink with the juice from the cherries and some green with food coloring. Top with toppings.
Makes 2 dozen. I usually quadruple this recipe. Put in little fancy paper cups! Freezes well!
