My husband and sons are junk food addicts. Every week $20 at least is added to the grocery bill for such items as cookies, chips, ice cream, etc…
I know how to make the cookies and ice cream from scratch, but does anyone know how to make a decent tortilla chip that is not too heavy and will hold up to salsa? or a really good potato chip? and we are addicted to wheat thins…..anyone know a way to make them? I am trying to cut out all snack food purchases and unless I want a mutiny I have to come up with alternatives!
Junk food?

Tortilla chips are very easy to make. I often make tortilla chips and pita chips when I cater.
If you don’t make your own tortillas like I do, you can use any purchased tortilla = wholewheat, corn, flour, etc. Take a pile of them and stack them up, cut with a long knife, like cutting a pie, into 8 or 12 wedges. I prefer 12 as they are smaller. Bake them in a 350* oven for a few minutes until they are crisp. If you want more flavor, you can brush (or spray) each one as you stack them with a little oil and sprinkle with onion or garlic salt.

What about homemade Chex Mixes? You can use off-brand cereal and add healthy nuts, etc. You can make huge batches and bag it up. Extra can be stored (hidden) in the freezer for max freshness.
