Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 20
Prep Time: 30 min Cook Time: 12-15 minutesIngredients
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup melted margarine
1 teaspoon salt
2 packages yeast
1/2 cup warm water
4 cups flour
2 eggs
Filling
2 8 oz pkg cream cheese
3/4 cup sugar
1 egg
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons vanilla
Glaze
2 cups powdered sugar
4 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons vanilla
Directions
Dough: start the night before visiting teaching. Combine first 4 ingredients and heat to warm in a saucepan. Dissolve yeast in warm water. Combine both mixtures in a large storage bowl and add eggs and flour. Stir well. Cover tightly and refrigerate overnight.
Two hours before visiting teaching appointment: divide dough into 4 parts. Roll each into 12×8 inch rectangle. Spread with filling. Roll from long side. Pinch ends and fold under. Move to greased baking sheets. Snip with scissors every 2 inches 2/3 across dough on alternating sides. Looks like braided loaf. Cover with towel. Let rise about 1 hour. Bake at 375 for 12 to 15 minutes. Spread with glaze while hot from oven. Makes 4 (12 inch long) loaves. For the cream cheese filling, soften cream cheese and add rest of ingredients in mid recipe section and stir well. Makes about 2 cups. Can use some cherry pie filling or lemon pie filling in the middle with the cream cheese.
