Easy on the budget, quick to make! While the rice is cooking, quick and easy to make sauce and some meat side. Huge family favorite. Adding fruit is optional.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 3
Prep Time: 5 min Cook Time: 5-10 minIngredients
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce — optional
1/2 cup water
1 tablespoon cornstarch plus 2 tbsp water
Directions
Stir ketchup and brown sugar together. Add in the rest of the ingredients except the cornstarch. Once the mixture gets warm, stir in the cornstarch mixed in with 2 tablespoons water. Bring to boil and serve. Can also add a bit of sesame oil, pineapple juice or bits, etc. You can also adjust the cornstarch depending on how thick you like it. I usually triple this recipe for our family. Goes with meatballs, hamburger, chicken, pork, chicken nuggets, ribs, pot stickers… Yummy is adding in 1/4 tsp toasted sesame oil.
