This is from my grandmother’s Presto cooker recipe book from the 1950’s. I have used this recipe many, many times, with both beef and pork ribs.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 4-6
Prep Time: 10 - 15 min. Cook Time: 15 min. plus cooldown timeIngredients
2 pounds spare ribs (beef or pork)
salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon shortening
1 onion, sliced
1/2 cup barbecue sauce (bottled or your own)
Directions
Cut ribs into serving pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Heat cooker uncovered; add shortening. Brown ribs in cooker on both sides. Add onion. Pour barbecue sauce over meat in cooker. Place cover on cooker. Follow your cooker’s directions about letting steam escape or not before placing weight on vent pipe. Cook 15 min with stem at COOK position. Let stem return to DOWN position before opening cover.
