Food Interests

I like most foods. I bake a lot. I will take a whole day every once in a while and bake all day. Mostly making desserts. Bruce likes his desserts. Chocolate is his favorite. I bake Pumpkin bread in the fall because I have so much frozen pumpkin from the last couple of years. I am still trying to use it up, but I keep getting BLESSED with more so I just keep it in rotation in the freezer. I love to give so of course that is how I use it up. I try to put different things in it like chocolate or raisins so it is a little different. I make angel food cakes into jelly rolls and lots of pies and cakes. Occasionally I make cookies, but usually pan cookies. My favorite is lemon bars.
Most of my cooking for meals I like to either bar be cue in the good weather or bake in the cold weather. We grow our own beef, pork and chicken so I can always just go to the freezer and get what we are having for the next meal. I can and therefore we don’t have to worry about grocery shopping except for the dog and 3 cats.I make cheese and butter from the raw cows milk, oh yummy.I have a cheese cave in the future so I can make DH’s favorite pepper jack. I am looking forward to aging some of the cheeses I want to make. I long for extra sharp cheddar. I love to grow a garden and put the food up canned or frozen. I hope to get to the place where all my food put up is canned as I don’t like the idea of losing it if the power goes off. I do can meats now and we really enjoy them when we have been working outside and need a quick meal.

Hobbies

Most of my hobbies are centered around taking care of Bruce, (hes disabled) the animals and chickens. I do knit, crochet, sew (35 years professionally) do crewel embroidery and counted cross stitch and quilt. Most of the hand work I do is around a pansy theme as they are my favorite flowers and purple is my favorite color. I also have an embroidery machine, but don’t use it much. I finally got the software so now at least I have no excuse.I spend lots of my time with my dairy animals. This time of year is very hard because like today the milking machine froze (its 18`). I hadn’t had to take care of that problem since last December when it got to 6` so I forgot that when I defrost it I have to dry it before I can milk or it will freeze while the cows are being milked. Relearning can be bothersome, but I have been corrected. You just have to restart and go on. My poor chickens are having it the worst. One of them does not perch because of a bad foot and she never learned she could. She sits on the bottom of the cage and roosts there. Last night I had to take her out of the barn and put her in the cage so she would be safe from preditors. None of them like to be moved when they are already sleeping. McDorkle finally learned she can sit on the bar on the feeder in the hen house to roost. I love all of my critters.
I have photos on Facebook also.
