My mother and I made up this recipe on a sunny, nothing-to-do summer afternoon in 1967. Very sweet, but we give it nutritional value because of the peanut butter and oatmeal.
Difficulty: Easy
Servings: 12 krazy teenagers will gobble these in minutes.
Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 20 minutes (est.)Ingredients
3 cups sugar
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup milk
2 Tablespoons cocoa
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
pinch of salt
3 cups oatmeal or until correct consistency
Directions
Combine sugar and cocoa in a heavy saucepan. Add milk and bring to a boil over medium heat. Add butter, (margarine will work in a pinch) and cook just until butter melts. Add peanut butter and pinch of salt and stir until blended. Add vanilla. Take pan off heat. Add oatmeal and mix well. Drop by tablespoon on to waxed paper. Let cool and enjoy!
Depending on the climate, more or less oatmeal can be added/subtracted until consistency is fit to bind on a tablespoon.
