Good, tasty, easy homemade wine recipe?

Aug
16

I just started trying my hand at making some homemade beer and wine. I have bought a kit, but does anyone have an old recipe for an easy but tasty wine that can be made with few ingredients, like the old timers and still taste good? I would love to hear from you. Too bad, my grandfather used to make bootleg whiskey, he saw his prison days, eeesh, unfortunately he is no longer with us to ask questions. I don’t know if I would be able to drink what he made either, LOL! I’ll just stick with the edible drinks 🙂 Angelina

Angelina, I haven’t tried this yet (though I’d like to!). We do have a couple of forum topics on the subject here:

Sheryl-Runningtrails is quite knowledgeable about it and maybe she will poke her head in here, too.

I make lots of organic homemade wine the old fashioned way! Its fun and its also addictive. Wine can be made out of a lot of different things. I make it organic without sulphite as my husband is allergic to sulphite and I also believe that it gives me headaches. Its not necessary. Like you said, our ancestors made wine for centuries without today’s chemicals.

I have four different gallons of wine almost ready to bottle right now: dandelion, rose petal, lilac blossom and sugar snap pea pod. I also have recipes and plans to make wine from ground cherries and chichiquelites this summer, too.

I started a wine and pie garden this year and am collecting every type of berry I can find to grow in it, among other things good for wine making, like rhubarb. Rhubarb makes awesome wine!!

I have an ebook entitled “Making Organic Wine At Home” that is available and downloadable from my new farm store page here:
    http://www.artbysheryl.com/Providenceacres/farmstoreintro2010.htm

It should have all the information you could want about making organic wine at home with instructions, methods and recipes to make wine from just about anything.

FYI – Whiskey can only be made by distilling a basic yeast alcohol beverage, like wine. Its not legal to distill liquor in the USA or in Canada. Its interesting, though, and something I would probably try, if it were legal.

I tried to visit your website for your ebook but the link seems to be broken. I got to your art website but could get no further.

The link has changed and I cannot edit this posting, unfortunately.

    It is now at: providenceacresfarm.com.
    Please try it again 🙂
