Prep Time: 5 min Cook Time: 10-12 minIngredients
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp Baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp. ginger
white sugar
Directions
Mix together shortening,sugar, and molasses. Add and mix the egg.
Mix together and then add to main bowl: flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and ginger.
Scoop into typical cookie sized pieces and roll into a ball. Roll each ball into white sugar and place on a cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 min. If you let them go longer then they become ginger snaps instead of chews.

Thank you so much for sharing your recipe for these delicious cookies. It brings back memories of my childhood and I can still smell those cookies baking in our big old farmhouse kitchen. I really felt taken back this afternoon as the smell lingered in the kitchen and spread throughout the house. Even the pets were sniffing the air. The crispy outside with inside chewy texture was fabulous. It was meant to be made and thank you for allowing that to happen today.
