Does anyone have a recipe for this? I’ve never seen another recipe done in the double boiler – its always baked in the oven
I remember my grandmother making this. She put brown sugar then raisins in the bottom, then buttered cubed bread, then carefully poured the egg, milk, vanilla mixture over the bread. When it was done, she would invert it like a flan/ cream caramel & the brown sugar woould run down the sides….
I think there was 6 slices of bread & 3 eggs but I dont remember the rest of the measurements or the cooking time. I’d really like to make this, I need a hug from grandma….

Re: Bread Pudding made in double boiler
I googled it and came up with this recipe.
1 cup brown sugar
3-4 slices buttered bread cut into cubes
in a bowl:
beat 2 eggs
Add:
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups milk
Mix the above…then
pour over bread, but do not stir. Put over boiling water. Steam for 1 hour.
The brown sugar makes the sauce for the pudding.
Be sure the water does not boil away from bottom part of double boiler.
Not exactly as you wanted…only 2 eggs and no raisins mentioned but imagine you could add 1 more egg and raisins.

Thank you! I’m sure its close enough….the raisins may have been one of her “secret ingredient” additions…
