These were a specialty of my late former Mother-in-law. They are amazing and were my first introduction to a ‘biscuit’ with yeast.

Ingredients
2 1/2 cups AP flour
1/2 tsp. Baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbsp. sugar
6 Tbsp. shortening
1 pkg. yeast
1 cup buttermilk, warmed
Directions
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening. Dissolve yeast in warmed milk. Combine wet and dry quickly, mix, knead 20 to 30 strokes.
Roll out 1/2″ thick. Cut into rounds.
Melt some butter and brush on half the rounds.
Top each with another round (stack).
Let rise until double in size.
Bake 12 to 15 minutes at 375 – 400 degrees.
