Get Your Intense Taco Flavor Here

The intense taco flavor of this recipe, followed by the smooth and creamy beans and crunchy fresh toppings, is so amazingly good. I don’t know how else to explain the flavors and goodness of this pizza. It will rival your favorite pizza chain’s taco pizza and cost a fraction of the price.

Taco Pizza:

2 12-inch pizza crusts
1 small can of refried beans (or use leftovers, they freeze really well!)
1 small jar pizza sauce
2 cups (or more) taco seasoned meat (again, use leftovers)
1/2 cup onion, chopped
2 1/2 cups cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 head iceburg lettuce, finely shredded
1 tomato, seeded and chopped
1 can olives, drained and sliced
1 packet (or 2 tablespoons) taco seasoning
sour cream
Doritos, nacho or taco flavor
hot sauce, optional
salsa, optional
guacamole, optional
sliced jalapenos, optional

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Spread 1/2 the can of refried beans on one pizza crust. Top with 1/2 cup pizza sauce, followed by 1/2 the meat and 1/2 the cheese. Shake 1 tablespoon taco seasoning over the top and then add your desired amount of onions and bake until the crust is golden brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle 1/2 the shredded lettuce, tomato, and olives over the top. Put some sour cream in a plastic sandwich bag and snip off the corner. Drizzle the sour cream artistically over the top of the pizza. Crush Doritos and add them over the top of the sour cream. Add any additional toppings, slice, and serve. Repeat with all steps to make the second pizza.

Wanna know how much it cost me to make these two pizzas? By using leftovers and a few ingredients from my garden these cost me less than $1.50 EACH! Probably one of my better ideas, if I do say so myself.

The lesson here is that even the smallest amount of leftovers can often be added to a little something and make an entirely different, yet completely delicious meal for your family. Don’t throw things away, make something new!

Cold weather always feels like a call to pancakes and waffles for me. Warm, sweet breakfast, and time to make it on a snowy weekend morning. Maybe you could use this Oster Belgian Flip Waffle Maker to help you get the job done? It’s the December contributor prize.

We’d love to hear your voice!

November 26, 2012 - Peanut Butter Cookies with No Flour?

These cookies have been making the ROUNDS on the internet and Pinterest especially. I wasn’t all that excited to try them because I have a fantastic peanut butter cookie recipe that I love and cherish, but I needed a snack for the kids and I was out of flour. I KNOW! How could I be...

November 23, 2012 - Leftover Thanksgiving Turkey Kit

I used to have no imagination when it came to turkey. Leftover turkey meant sandwiches. And more sandwiches. Then everyone would get tired of turkey and never want to see turkey again. Which explains why I only used to make turkey once a year, at Thanksgiving. It would take a whole year to get over...

November 20, 2012 - Easy Raised Pumpkin Donuts

Ohhhhh how good these were! This is one of my new favorite recipes and I have to say it was so simple and easy. I took a recipe for Pumpkin Yeast Bread from King Arthur Flour and instead of shaping it into 2 loaves of bread I cut out donuts! I can see why they...

November 18, 2012 - Apricot Anise Hyssop Jam (Made with Anise Hyssop Simple Syrup)

I scored some awesome fruit this summer. Among the treasures we brought home was a big box of Black Velvet apricots. The sign said they were a plum-apricot hybrid, but I think they’re mostly apricot. They have a soft golden flesh with that distinctive apricot texture and fragrance, but they are a gorgeous dark red...

November 16, 2012 - Cooking up a Storm

For many years, we had no power. No electric bills, no lights, no mixer, canning in 90 degree weather on a wood cook stove. Finally we achieved the grid. I did a happy dance. However, after years of living off the grid, I am well prepared when the power goes out. Propane generator hooked up...

November 14, 2012 - Easy Ice Cream Cake

This easy-to-make ice cream cake is a favorite in our home. I make it for all of our birthdays. (I don’t make my own cake!) I make it for my husband’s and two kids’ birthdays, and we all love it. It’s good to make this about 6-8 hours ahead of when you will be serving...
